Description

The theme of the 7th Annual Hispanic/Latino Studies Summer Institute is to Provide Culturally Responsive Curriculum and Instruction for Hispanic/Latino Students.

Event Details

The objective is to help increase cultural competence among district personnel, and assist in the development of culturally responsive instruction and curriculum. This is aligned to the district’s strategic themes of providing effective and relevant instruction to meet the needs of all students, and to provide a positive and supportive school climate.

Topics and strategies will be conducive in the development of an equitable learning experience for Hispanic/Latino students, with an emphasis on increasing student achievement for underperforming subgroups. The institute will include engaging presentations from renowned experts on instructional design, curriculum development, and social-emotional learning.

The theme of the 25th Annual African and African American Studies Summer Institute is The African Diaspora; Exploring the Cultural Diversity of Black Students in PBC Schools.

The goal is to help participants understand the dynamics of the African Diaspora and how it influenced the cultural and linguistic diversity of African peoples in the Americas. During the institute, experts in instructional and curriculum design will unpack the diversity of our Black students and discuss how this influences learning. Participants will walk away with the ability to create strategies to support the social, emotional, and academic needs of this subgroup.

No registration required from community members and parents. District personnel should register through eLearning.
